Dr. Carlson is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and he is a member of the California Dental Association and the Santa Barbara, Ventura County Dental Society.

Dr. Carlson completed his specialty and residency training at The University of California San Francisco. Within this training program he worked extensively at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, San Francisco VA Medical Center, the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, and the UCSF Moffitt Hospital and Medical Center. During these six years of specialty training, Dr. Carlson gained broad scope experience within the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery while maintaining a special interest focused on dental surgery, general anesthesia, and dental implants. In addition to obtaining his certificate of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Carlson received a Medical Doctorate from The University of California San Francisco Medical School.

Prior to residency Dr. Carlson completed his undergraduate studies at The University of California Santa Barbara. After completing college he worked as a medical volunteer at the Sera Mey Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Karnataka, India. While working with Tibetan refugees in rural India he had the privilege of being exposed to and confronting unique oral health challenges in an international setting.  Upon returning to the USA, Dr. Carlson then attended and graduated from The University of California Los Angeles School of Dentistry.

Dr. Carlson is an avid classical pianist, hiker, and together with his wife enjoys raising their young son and daughter.
